I moved to UHS in 2012 as the co-director of the Fit-4-Surgery Consortium led by Professor Mike Grocott. My previous relevant roles include the Founder and Director of the Clinical Diagnostic Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Service and the Preoperative Assessment Cardiopulmonary Testing Service in the Dept of Respiratory Medicine. My expertise is in exercise testing and training in health and disease and ventilatory control. I am the chief investigator on numerous clinical trials and including an National Health Service England prgamtic clinical trials investing the effectiveness of multi-modal prehabilitation in community settings. This unique funding model encompasses a service development informed by an embedded clinical trial.
This talk will include a presentation of some of the evidence in this area and an overview of the effective and where possible the cost effectiveness of the interventions in this setting. I am also going to give an update on WesFit: Wessex Fit-4-Cancer Surgery Trial which includes in-hospital and but predominately community-based multi modal prehabilitation.
